Post subject:  wax over shellac

Does anyone have a favorite wax to recommend to put over a shellac finish? I want to put a final polish on a project. I have used McGuire's top coat safe before with some luck, but sometimes it clouds up. What do you use? Thanks,
GS

Thanks Filippo. Are you using 100% carnauba, or a blend?. The hardware down the street has a carnauba blend in the wood finish aisle, but there was other stuff in there I did not recognize.

Depends. Carnauba or Briwax does the trick.

Fantastic, thanks. I'll look for it and give it a try.

Carnauba can not be used at 100%. That's false marketing.

I use Zymol Carbon wax.

I like Butchers Boston Polish, but any high quality furniture paste wax will do. Avoid bowling alley wax as it is not the right blend for this.

Thanks Brian, I'll look for that also.

I found Johnson Wax general purpose paste did not work well for me, clouded up quickly. I also don't like that the JW doesn't say what is in it on the tin.
I also tried Howard's Feed -N- Wax, and while it was easy to work with I am not sure it left much of a wax coat over the shellac, which was already pretty shiny. Thanks guys, I'll pick up these products and give them a try.

I keep meaning to get some Renaissance Wax...a "microcrystalline" wax originally developed for the British Museum. Suppose to be "da bomb".
